USACE Design-Build Flagship Motorpool

USACE Design-Build Flagship Motorpool Renovations, Fort Hood, Texas

The Flagship Motorpool Complex Renovation project was designed to service soldier vehicles in the simplest and most efficient manner possible. The upgrades were required to meet anti-terrorism force protection (AFTP) and life and safety standards. The work also reflected the need to accommodate modern vehicles, overhead cranes and improve motorpool ISR ratings to “green” condition.

The project required the design and complete renovation of three key complexes on the base. The buildings were unusable in their current condition. Major repair to the interior and exterior of the buildings was required; new administrative space was created with the addition of a second floor to each building. The supply areas, latrines, new personnel doors/hardware, and windows were upgraded to meet ATFP standards. Additionally, electrical power and lighting, mechanical and plumbing/fire-sprinkler systems, including HVAC, were all upgraded to compliance with current fire/life safety standards and provided force protection.

Schedule: The contract completion time for the project was 240 days. The project was awarded a modification to add approximately $300K and 86 days to the project, and the project was completed approximately 14 days ahead of schedule.

Budget: Due to the Project Team’s constructability reviews, tight estimating and 20-years of familiarity with Ft. Hood, the contract award for $6,456,433, was $200,000 less than the Corps’ original project cost estimate.

The Results: The MW Builders and Sealaska team succeeded in delivering high functioning motorpool facilities for the soldiers on the Ft. Hood Army base. The space is ergonomical and efficient; thereby improving the quality of work and extending the life of the equipment serviced. We are proud to have served the USACE and the US Army.
