Group Site Construction Project

Group Site Construction Project, Greensburg, Kansas

In 2007, a calamitous tornado hit Greensburg, Kansas – wrecking havoc on the homes and businesses in the community. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) responded with a call for the design and construction of a 298-unit Community Group Site.

Sealaska Constructors’ environmental group, Sealaska-Kingston provided the analysis, design, development and installation of the FEMA facilities.

Sealaska-Kingston prepared all design documents on-site for the project including site survey, site planning and project location, grading, erosion control, utilities, concrete pads, streets, sidewalks, ramps, electrical and power distribution, sewers, plumbing and water services. Project development included locating pads, planning for construction and installation of mobile homes, tornado shelters, laundry facilities and other community improvements.

Sealaska-Kingston was responsible for providing construction documents for review by Army Corps of Engineers working in conjunction with FEMA, revisions and final approval by FEMA. We lead the coordination of permits and submittal documentation with the City and County regulatory agencies, as well as a State of Kansas Stormwater Runoff Plan for Construction Activities.

Construction was started 31 May, 2007, mere days following the disastrous tornado which devastated the City of Greensburg. In addition to the construction of the 350 unit mobile home site properties, Sealaska-Kingston provided transportation, delivery, installation, hook-up and final preparation for acceptance by FEMA. Substantial completion of the project was issued in August 2007. The total project cost is approximately $26M.
