Brigade Combat Team Barracks

Brigade Combat Team (BCT) Barracks Complex at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) – USACE

The BCT Barracks Complex project – a US Army Corps of Engineers’ Quality of Life military construction program – will serve 624 soldiers at the Joint Base Lewis-McChord. The project’s entire scope involves the design and construction of seven barrack buildings totaling 161,000 square feet and 18 acres of site development. As a primary subcontractor on this project, Sealaska Constructors has or will perform all the sitework development, including site demolition and clearing, erosion control, mass excavation [strip (56,000 tons), cut (11,000 tons), and fill (80,000 tons)], site grading (rough and finish), underground utility construction of the fire protection and storm/sanitary sewer system installation, and the asphalt paving.

Resolving unanticipated site conditions. During mass excavation it was discovered that the topography of the site was different than expected. Much of the soil was structurally unsuitable and had to be removed and replaced with acceptable material. Using GPS real-world accurate data, Sealaska Constructors provided the basis for the Project Team to generate a sound, equitable, and collaborative solution. By identifying and quantifying the challenge before us, we were able to efficiently remedy the unforeseen challenge and move the project forward for the benefit of all.

Construction began December of 2009 and is scheduled for completion summer of 2011.
